Chief Dental Officer, Department of Health, Ireland
Dympna Kavanagh is the Chief Dental Officer in the Department of Health, Ireland. She worked with Unilever Research and subsequently completed her PhD in UCC. She undertook a Diploma, Masters, and Specialist/ Consultancy Training in Dental Public Health in King’s College London. She has worked in the Health Service Executive Ireland in the areas of quality and risk, general management and within the Dental Service all at National Level. She is President Elect of the Council of European Chief Dental Officers and of the Platform for Better Oral Health for the EU.
The Irish National Oral Health Policy ‘Smile agus Slainte’ was published 2019 It requires a fundamental reform of the Irish Oral Health care system . A central focus is the primary care model,and the expansion of all services for the most vulnerable in Ireland and reducing inequalities.
